Pumpkin spice everything, thin sweaters with boots, football…who doesn’t love the fall? In Gulf Coast Texas, particularly Baytown, fall means a reprieve from roasting heat and the emergence of outdoor activities that the beautiful weather makes that much more enjoyable. Here is a list of our top 4 outdoor activities that will make you “FALL IN LOVE” with Baytown.
Take a trip to the Baytown Farmer’s Market
The Baytown Farmer’s Market is a year-round event that happens the 3rd Saturday of each month in the Downtown Arts District’s Town Square from 8am-1pm. There is just something a bit more special about the market in the fall—you can feel the holiday atmosphere taking shape! Craft and food vendors begin to sell an array of Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas décor and munchies. Also, when the temperatures turn chilly Sabor of Mexico (located across from the Town Square) offers hot chocolate for purchase for market goers to sip and stroll. Market visitors may also want to see if the Bike to the Market and Market Workout programs are a bit more their speed while the temps are pleasant.
There is a reason the birds fly south before the winter—because they don’t to miss Texas in the fall. We highly recommend taking a trip or three to the Baytown Nature Center during the fall (and spring) bird migration. This birding hot spot features birding blinds dotting the park to watch land and water birds making their stops to feed and preen. Hummingbirds take over the gardens July-October, hawk watch begins in August, and visiting shorebirds make pit stops July through October.
Take a Stroll in the Park
Did we mention just how nice the temperatures are in October and November? It’s the perfect time to plan a family outing to the different parks and 17-miles of trails that Baytown has to offer. Looking for parks with a water view, kayaking launches, or fishing spots? Look no further than Roseland Park, the Eddie V. Gray Wetlands Center, or the Baytown Nature Center. Want wooded trails, play features, and a place to bring the family pet? Take a stroll through the winding trails of Jenkins and Hollaway Park. How about the perfect venue for a wedding or family reunion? Evergreen Park has a beautiful event space overlooking a golf course and fishing pond.
Motorsports for the Adrenaline Junkies
The Houston Raceway Park is the Houston area’s only major multi-purpose motor sports venue and features a quarter-mile drag strip and 500 acres of space hosting major racing events and festivals year-round. This fall don’t miss street legal racing every Friday night on the drag strip beginning at 6pm. For the first time during the fall, the raceway will be hosting the Mopar Express Lane NHRA Spring Nationals due to the annual event’s spring postponement. Other events this fall include the Lone Star MOPAR Fest, October Truck Madness, the yearly Import Face Off, the HPT Shootout, and the 2nd Annual Texas Turkey Hunt.
