Come share your love of Baytown with us! The Baytown Tourism staff offers you an exciting opportunity, to become a Heart of Baytown Volunteer/Docent in the historic Brunson Theater located at 311 W. Texas Avenue. The Tourism Division has opened Baytown’s first Visitor Information Center, and we need your help!
We are asking for volunteers to help us greet visitors and community members who visit the Baytown Visitor Information Center.
It is simple! The Heart of Baytown Volunteers/Docents are positioned in the lobby area of the Brunson Theater (at a desk, so no long periods of standing required). There, we ask Volunteers/Docents to be a friendly host for all who enter the Visitor Information Center. Greeting guests and sharing knowledge of Baytown is the primary focus of this position; however, duties also entail keeping the front desk and lobby of the Visitor Information Center straight and stocked, answering phones, and light computer data entry. If spending a few hours a month in the Brunson isn’t your desire, we offer additional types of volunteer positions too, such as working at booths and tradeshows, speaking engagements or even giving tours!

What to Expect: Many visitors may ask you to recommend the best hotel, restaurant, or attraction. Some visitors may even guess there is nothing to see or do, hence the more popular question, “What is there even to do in Baytown!?” Baytown has plenty to offer! We will give you ALL of the necessary training to make you feel confident when speaking about Baytown’s wonderful attractions and amenities. Each volunteer/docent must complete the #IHeartBaytown Training Class; a two hour seminar that includes snacks and small breaks presented by Tourism staff and Tourism partners. Upon completion, you will be #IHeartBaytown certified and will be eligible to volunteer at the Baytown Visitor Information Center!

Monday-Friday, 9:00 am- 4:00 pm
May occasionally include weekends or evening hours for special events.
Other Volunteer Opportunities: Occasionally, tourism staff will ask for assistance working a booth at an event or trade show. Other opportunities such as speaking to a small community group or giving a tour may even become available to those who are interested.
Assignments: Tourism is a fluid industry, and just like the day to day activities of the Tourism Staff varies, so do the assignments of volunteers. Overall, the majority of the assignments involve “meeting and greeting.” Assignments may include working the front desk of the Baytown Visitor Information Center which includes, greeting visitors, answering phones, giving directions & recommendations, sharing the history of the Baytown, helping at informational booths at special events, providing support with large volume mailing projects, assembling of giveaway bags for visitors, and other projects as needed.
We strive to make most assignments fun and rewarding, but will occasionally ask for assistance with office or clerical duties.

Working Environment
Volunteers working in the Baytown Visitor Information Center will be a climate controlled environment. For Volunteers who decide to work outdoor events may be exposed to heat, cold, sun and humidity. Volunteers may work with crowds or in noisy environments.
Physical Demands
Physical demands are light, but occasionally involve standing or walking for long periods, lifting boxes of printed materials and other items, and setting up information or trade show booths.
