Beat the Heat in Baytown

Updated: Sep 23, 2020

Summer is in full swing here along the gulf coast of Texas, and that means it can be sweltering hot, humid, and sometimes downright miserable during the day! School has been out for about a month, and the kiddos (and caregivers!) are probably starting to get a little restless being cooped up in the house. No fear, we have several ways you can beat the heat and get out of the house in Baytown, and without breaking the bank!

Take a plunge into the fun at Pirates Bay!

Pirates Bay is a 7-acre water park with activities for children of all ages!  For the little swimmers, there is a zero beach entry pool with an interactive pirate-themed play center with a giant dump bucket and sprayers. For a laidback time on the water, spend the day in the 671-foot long lazy river or listen to tunes while floating around the wave pool. For the thrill seekers, there are 9 different exhilarating water slides that dot the park from tube racers to sharp drops; in addition to the Flowrider surfing machine which creates an endless moving mountain of water with all the excitement of ocean surfing!

Savings Tip: Visit Pirate’s Bay Water Park, Monday – Thursday. On these weekdays entry fees are reduced.  For even steeper savings enter after 4pm (non-holidays, Mon-Thurs) for only $10.00 per person!

Enjoy a Full Moon Hike at the Baytown Nature Center!

Take a short drive out on Bayway Drive where you will find the Baytown Nature Center, a 450-acre peninsula offering miles of winding paths through woods and wetlands. During the day, hikers can experience the peace of nature and a unique view of the San Jacinto Monument and the Fred Hartman Bridge.

However, the real adventure begins when the sun goes down. Once per month, nature enthusiasts and novice hikers alike congregate at the gates of the Baytown Nature Center to experience a 90-minute guided trek through a chorus of hooting owls, yelping coyotes and a myriad of scurrying nocturnal animals. Each Full Moon Hike is free with general admission to the nature center: $4 for ages 13 and older. To find out more click here
