Calling All Chalk Artists!

Contest Date: March 23, 2019

Competition: 2pm-6pm

Judging: 4pm- 7pm

The City of Baytown is now accepting registrations for the chalk art contest for the Arts & Eats Fest on March 23. This is an annual festival held in Baytown’s Downtown Arts District that includes live music, food trucks, fire truck pull, and a chalk art contest. All monies raised will benefit the Special Olympics and the Rising Stars, an adult special needs art class.

 

Application Guidelines:

  • One application per person.

  • Must be 14 years or older to submit an application. There will be a designated section for children under the age of 14 who would like to chalk.

  • New artists need to submit 1 sample of artwork with their application. Sample does not need to be chalk art specific. Returning artists do not need to submit a sample of their artwork.

  • Artists will be notified after March 8th if they have been chosen for the chalk art contest.  Those artist not initially chosen for the contest may choose to be placed on the wait list and will be notified by March 21st if a spot becomes available.  There are only 28 spaces that will be filled for the contest.

Contest Guidelines:

  • Artwork must be appropriate for family friendly public viewing.

  • Artwork will avoid political statements, advertising, and profanity.

  • Artwork will not violate any copyright laws.

  • Artists will be assigned a 5 ft x 5 ft block to create an original piece of art using chalk. Artwork cannot exceed the 5 ft x 5 ft block.

  • Artists are encouraged to bring their own chalk, blending tools, etc. No paint is allowed.  There will be some extra pastels available if artists run out of chalk, but certain colors are not guaranteed to be available.

  • Blocks are assigned on a first-come first-serve basis and consist of a random section of Town Square; some blocks may have cracks, color or texture variations.

  • Please note that competition space is limited. So early registration is encouraged.

  • If this event is rained out, a reschedule date will be provided.

  • Baytown Tourism and Baytown Parks and Recreation retains the right to photograph any and all artwork and to use these images to promote future events. We will be taking photographs during the contest and all artists agree to be photographed for marketing purposes.

  • If this event is rained out, a reschedule date will be provided.

Contest Awards:

  • A first, second, and third place prize will be awarded. Individuals who attend the Arts & Eats Fest are encouraged to purchase tickets and drop them in their favorite artists buckets. Tickets will be available for $1. All money raised will benefit the Art League of Baytown’s Rising Stars, a special needs art class for adults.

I understand that if I am a NEW ARTIST APPLICANT, that I must upload an art sample. If I am a RETURNING ARTIST from last year's competition, I do not need to upload an art sample.
