Grito Fest

The 14th Annual Grito Fest, one of the area’s most popular festivals celebrating Hispanic heritage, will be held Saturday, October 5, at Baytown’s Bicentennial Park (1001 Market Street). This family friendly outdoor concert will feature musical entertainment, mariachis, kid’s activities, contests, food and craft vendors, and more!

 

Performances begin at 4:30 pm. Those interested in competition can take part in an accordion-playing competition, jalapeño/salsa contests, and of course, the centerpiece of the event, the Grito contest.

4:30 - 5:30 pm MARIACHI LOS GALLITOS

5:30 - 6:00 pm Mejikinzie Ballet Folklorico

6:00 - 6:15 pm Accordion Competition & Grito Preliminaries

6:15 - 7:45 pm Tropical Panama

 

7:45 - 8:15 pm Huapangeros de Baytown

 

8:15 - 8:30 pm Jalapeno, Salsa Contests, and Grito Championships

 

8:30 - 10:00 pm Solido

 

Admission to the event is free.

 

The name “Grito Fest” comes from a traditional Mexican celebratory “grito” yell roughly pronounced “waaaaaaaii-ai-yai-yai-ahay-hay-hay."
